Ostrander Hut, Yosemite

I don’t even remember how I first learned about the Ostrander Hut but likely through my buddy Valas who loops me in on all things cool in nature. The hut is located in the wilderness of Yosemite NP, 10 miles via skis or snowshoes from the Badger Pass Ski Area.

My first trek out there was on Feb 20, 2016, so just this pass weekend marked a 5 years since. This past weekend, we did not trek out to Ostrander as it’s closed because of COVID-19. We instead camped on Glacier Point which was incredible as it presents a very unique and majestic view of the Yosemite Valley and Half Dome direct in front of you. You can just feel that you’re standing on shores of a massive glacier, which flowed through here thousands of years ago. But this most recent trip made me realize how easily my memories are storing the details of those trips and it’s becoming more difficult to recall the fun stories and adventures of going out there so I decided to create this artifact of a blog post. My visits to the Ostrander (area) and Glacier Point Road:

  1. Feb 20, 2016 → with Tomas, Valas, Sam B (4)
  2. April 1, 2017 → with Edmundas B, and Maksim (joining for just a part of the way out) (2)
  3. Feb 1, 2019 → with Linas, Romas, Tomas, Maksim (5)
  4. Feb 20, 2021 → going to the Glacier Point, not the hut with Linas, Romas, Valas (4)

I want to gather some resources I’ve found helpful to learn about the hut over the years, below:
